Enzo the Baker

By Enzo

I think

this was taken about 1973. Many thanks to my brother for uncovering the negatives and sending me scans and a print. This is the Wharfedale cylinder, installed at The Whittington Press. Apparently I had been set to cleaning it. The wall behind the camera  had been demolished during the installation, and then replaced. The machine, not much used the last couple of decades, is unlikely ever to move. A Heidelberg cylinder now does the large scale work. Of course, I remember printing the first book at Whittington on an Imperial handpress -  powered by people, not electricity ...

More memories this evening when L. came to stay, before singing in Malvern tomorrow. Our parents were friends before we were born.
