Hunter's Moon

The actual Hunter's Moon is in October. Today's entry is so named as my afternoon walk was puctuated by the sound of gunshots coming from the fell opposite. If you look a little under the moon, on the horizon, you can just about see one of the five hunters who were out looking for rabbits (or maybe pheasants) this afternoon. The others are in the field below, along with two dogs. The farmland they are on belongs to the estate and is next to a gamekeeper's farm, so it isn't unusual to see gangs of men with dogs about the place. We get a few shooters on our land too (which is seen in the foreground and also starts to the right of the field the hunters are in). Generally, the shooters are upfront and come asking for permission, a bottle of whisky in hand for my Dad. However, on occasion we get poachers on our land and Dad has to sort it out.

Thank you to everyone who has left very kind and caring comments the past two days. It's been a horrible time, but thankfully appears to be almost over, so now it is a case of moving on. Thanks again and sorry I haven't been able to comment much individually.
