Sea Glass

Some of my collection of sea glass found while walking on the beach at Seaham.  I love walking along looking out for it.  It is best to go on a sunny day as when the glass is wet it glistens in the sunlight.

There used to be a bottle works at Seaham between 1851 and 1921.  In its heyday it produced 20,000 hand blown bottles a day.  The glass now being washed up on the beach is the waste that was dumped out to sea.  It has has now been smoothed and rounded by force of the North Sea and people make jewelry from it.
