But, then again . . . . .

Fire Engine.

Having had our new front door fitted and painted, a process that took a few years,  it now needs a new letter box; Herself has a simple little brass number in mind. So off we popped to the reclamation yard. Think of it as a house clearance emporium; they clear houses. They remove furniture, trinkets, toys like this fire engine, door knobs, electrical fittings, plumbing stuff, fire places, doors, windows and floor boards, and they sell them – at a huge profit. Strangely, I’ve never seen bricks on sale there; perhaps they have a contract with a builder.

They also augment their stock with modern replicas, but they still don’t have an antique letter box in the modern standard size. After we came home I found a nice simple little brass letter box with the aid of my good friend Google, it was even the right size. I showed it to Herself; it seems that it is too simple.

This saga could run for a few more years yet.
