Statue

This is one of the statues which encircle the roof of the Victoria Gardens shopping centre in central Harrogate. There are several others, including a cornflake packet happy family. Sometimes knitted hats and scarves appear on them in the depths of winter (must be the shopping centre fairies...) No doubt they are meant to represent the proverbial happy shoppers, skipping merrily on to their next joyful retail experience, but as author Bill Bryson rightly noted, they actually look like they are about to commit mass suicide, driven to despair perhaps, by one too many unimaginative window displays...
