Walking football

I was at a Community Breakfast meeting at Alloa Football stadium this morning.  On the pitch a group of "seniors" were playing a rowdy game of "walking football" and clearly enjoying every minute.  Walking football was new to me but apparently it is a slow paced, low contact version of the beautiful game designed to help people over 50 have an active lifestyle regardless of their age and ability.  The players looked a pretty competitive bunch and every now and then one of them would break into a little run for the ball but the ref had eagle eyes and blew the whistle.  Apparently the team are off to a tournament in Portugal soon.  The Dollar Community Development Trust have been trying to get our long promised football pitch installed so as well as the youth teams, we may be able to get some walking football going in Dollar in future.
