The Golden Helix

A single golden helix is above the entrance to the former home, in Portugal Place, Cambridge, of Francis Crick, 1916-2004, who together with an American, James Watson, were the first to describe the double helix structure of DNA, in 1953, which is responsible for all the characteristics we inherit. Crick and Watson used the X-ray findings of Rosalind Franklin, and Maurice Wilkins, to further their own research. They shared the Nobel Prize for medicine, but Franklin,1920-1958, who was recognised only after her death, couldn't be included, although she is usually credited for her contribution. Francis Crick, in 1953, walked into 'The Eagle' pub and announced, " We have found the secret of life ! "
