My watch stopped again, inexplicably, for six minutes and I didn't notice. I even allowed myself time I didn't know I didn't have to stop and collect a book for the journey. So when I got to the station I didn't have the five minutes of breathing space I like, I had only just enough time to squeeze onto the train as the doors were closing.

But in Paddington the sun had come out to play in the cleaned roof girders.
