Vulture

Not a great picture - they are quite difficult to photograph and the shape and position of the head means its often 'lost' against the wings. Its easier to pick out the head large.

So why did I even pick the Vulture when I had others? Well it was to publicise the International Vulture Awareness day which took place back on 1st September. A lot of Vulture species are under threat which is a serious issue with this ecologically vital group of birds.

The problem is they aren't pretty and people generally don't like them. Can you imagine the World Wildlife Fund instead of using cuddly pandas for their logo, instead had a group of vultures flying at you!! Never going to happen.

Threats include chemicals, disturbance of breeding grounds and reduced food availability. They are declining and need help.
