Wolfe Island, golden sky

The weather has been sunny and calm here today. Great news for one of our goals! We don't have many while here, but we did want to paddle a canoe over to Simcoe Island, Half Moon Bay and slip into the minnow pond. This is a small pond connected to the St Lawrence River that is a perfect environment for frogs, turtles, fish & birds. Steven first discovered it when his dad shared it with him when he was 5 years old. He tells me some of his oldest memories are there.

The sunset above shows Simcoe Island, just across the way from Wolfe Island. The bay and the minnow pond are on the other side. I saw so many red wing blackbirds, heard frogs croaking and could see through the clear water. I even saw a couple of large Carp! Paddling the canoe tandem with Steven was fun. The water level is still high from the flooding /rain and so, many things that are usually above water were under, like docks, trees, rock ledges . . . But, it made it interesting! It is good to be here, see some of Steve's family and to learn more of Steve's history and memories.

Beautiful Wolfe Island . . . More views here:
