Many....

...generations.

Gemma came around for her usual Tuesday night club at ours. She brought with her the huge family collection of images to sort out with Claire. I do love old photographs especially formal portraits and Claire's family have a vast collection going back well over a hundred years.

I imagine her family were quite wealthy as photography was so expensive at the turn of the 20th Century and they have vast amounts of recorded photoshoots. The way they were dressed was rather impressive too and makes me wonder all about the processes the photographer must have gone through at the time. Exposure times were long too as you can see movement in the not so steady people.

The quality and exposures of some of the very old images is quite outstanding, Strange to think when digital came out we took a massive step backwards in terms of dpi, some still think (and rightly so) we are still catching up to silver halide.

I may have to return to these at some point to show off the really old prints as the ones in this shot probably only go back 50/60 years.
