The Old Forge (Monday 3rd July 2017)

It was a year ago that I had a new loft ladder and hatch installed in the front bedroom to enable full access for the first time, although without boards in place I never did more than poke my head through the hatch. Since then the area has been treated for woodworm; lighting and power points have been installed, and finally it has just been boarded. This marks the first time I ever entered the loft space and was able to study the bricked-up window  and the top of the forge chimney. In one corner I found some bits of straw that presumably date from hundreds of years ago when the roof was thatched.
