False Acacia

I was working in Derby today and my lunchtime walk took me once again to the Arboretum.

The Arboretum has been the subject of several of my previous blips, but for the first time today I have chosen an image of one of its trees. This is a False Acacia and is one of the original 1840 plantings in the Arboretum.

According to the Derby Heritage Walks website it is the biggest and best specimen in the country - an expert from Kew visited the Arboretum to help compile the catalogue and was surprised to find such a fine specimen. It doesn't say when this occurred however, and doesn't cite any references in support of the claim.
