Ovens to burn shells

When cement was not yet available they used the remains of burned seashells for cementing brick stones. Layers of peat and shells were put inside one of such ovens, set fire two and they would keep on burning for three days. After which the resulting stuff was put into another such oven where it would set fire to again. Then it was cooled with water and after that it could be used as cement.
