A rainy day in London

How do you try and see as much as possible of London in 12 hours? That is what we ended up doing today - and on such a rainy day too.

We decided to drive to London, so that we could go up the Kings Road and show my sister Chelsea. We saw Sloane Square and the very expensive houses of Eaton Square. Then we drove past Buckingham Palace, which was very crowded and busy as the changing of the guards had just taken place. We continued down The Mall and then parked just off Pall Mall. From here we walked to Trafalgar Square, then crossed over Hungerford Bridge to the South Bank. We had a light lunch on the South Bank and then walked along the South Bank, and then decided to walk across Westminster Bridge so that I could get those classic London shots of Big Ben with my sister in the photo - except the heavens opened and it poured with rain, so we got soaking wet crossing the bridge and no photos.

Not to be put off we continued and went to Westminster Abbey where we had an enjoyable hour or so touring the inside of the abbey which was very interesting. Then we walked through St James Park to the RAC club where we collapsed! We had a bit of a rest and some coffees, and then feeling energised again we decided to visit  Fortnum & Mason, but resisted buying any of their delicious chocolates! We walked up Burlington Arcade, saw the very expensive designer stores on Old Bond Street, walked along Piccadilly, up Regent Street to Carnaby Street, back down Regent Street to Piccadilly Circus. Then we walked up Shaftesbury Avenue, past the theatres and down to Covent Garden, past the Royal Opera House and finally had  some supper before going to the Lyceum Theatre to see The Lion King, which was totally brilliant. We had seen it about 10 years ago and I am sure the show has been improved since then. Finally it was time to head home - a long day, a busy day, but a lovely day (despite the rain).
