A Lasting Tribute

An emotional day knowing that the University of The West of Scotland (UWS) had created an award in my cousin's memory. Claire's mum, dad, husband, father in law and her aunt, (my mother) attended the graduation today to present the first ever recipient with a quaich.
Claire was an exceptional student, despite spending large chunks of her childhood in hospital due to a serious respiratory illness, she taught herself higher biology. Despite receiving two double lung transplants in her lifetime, she went on to achieve a first class honours degree in biomedical science and became a clinical trials coordinator. So wonderful that her mentor at uni, Professor Lockhart arranged for this very special legacy to be put in place, the board agreed it immediately and unanimously. A proud and emotional day for all who knew and loved Claire, and very fitting that the winner wishes to specialise in organ transplantation research.
