A walk in Kent

Kent is an old county, full of history both good and bad. My friend Henni and l hopped on a train and headed out of London and down to the old market town of Faversham with the idea of a walk out on to the marshes with lunch at one of the pubs along the way.
Just over an hour later we were walking through the streets passing Kents oldest covered street market, the stilted Guildhall, the ancient timbered buildings of 1475 used for building ships to defend against the Spanish Armada and on out on to the flat, wind swept marshes between the Oare and Swale creeks.
A wonderful circular walk, there are still lots of boats on the creeks, rather beeched in the mud at low tide but some of them - the old Thames barges in particular, beautiful old vessels.
We stopped for lunch at the lonely 300 year old pub the Shipwights Arms before walking on to complete the 5 mile walk. Cream tea and then the train home.
Main photo shows a Thames barge (note the lovely, brown/red furled sails).
