The ultimate survivors

Those clever physicists at Oxford University have been thinking the unthinkable. In the event of a really major asteroid impacting the earth, or a supernova going bang in our vicinity, or the nuclear nations going off their heads, which animals are most likely to survive?

The answer, it seems, are the lowly tardigrades, commonly known as the water bear. They reckon that the only thing that would for certainty wipe out these creatures would be the death of our sun! They  can survive temperatures as low as -272 degrees C, or up to 150 degrees. They can survive for decades without food or water. They laugh at a vacuum and can withstand a pressure of 1200 atmospheres. They can also tolerate levels of radiation that would fry the rest of us!

Why don't I take much comfort in these findings I wonder?
