National firefighters memorial London

Sculpture depicting three firemen, a sub-officer and two branch-men, working as a team to put out a fire. The sub-officer is based on Cyril Demarne, fire officer in the Second World War and initiator of the monument. The two branch-men are based on a photograph taken in Cannon Street in 1941.
The sculpture stands on an octagonal plinth, wich shows reliefs of two female firefighters. Originally, the plinth carriend the names of 1,027 firefighters who had died. In 2003 the plinth was doubled in height and 1,192 names were added of firefighters who died in action during peacetime.
