Cambridge Museum of Technology

Here's something a bit different.  I took Margaret over to Fulbourn and as she had to be there a bit earlier than usual I had a bit more time to fill. The plan was to meet daughter Claire, have a coffee in the Newmarket Road Tesco Costa and then a walk along the river.

We went to have a look at the old pumping house that is now The Cambridge Museum of Technology to see if there was a photograph to be had.  Surprisingly the building was open and some of the staff were working on this and that. One of them showed us around the building and explained how the various engines and pumps worked.  So we had a great afternoon poking about and taking a few photos.

This photograph is of the two Gas-Oil Engines and they are huge! That's a walkway between the flywheels and is about three feet wide.

This engine house is open at weekends and normally the engines are run on steam on Bank Holidays. Unfortunately the boiler is being repaired and the place is out of action for a while.

Well worth a visit even if they can't run the engines at the moment.
