New York City

My main blip shows the Freedom Tower (One World Trade Center) which is pretty impressive.  We were very moved by the whole experience of visiting the site of the 9/11 Museum with the North and South Pools sitting in the footprints of the original North and South Towers (see first extra).

Also in extras is the Survivor Tree which was discovered in the rubble of Ground Zero, nursed back to health and replanted at the site.  If you look towards the top of the branches you will see the line between the darker bark showing where the impact of the attack hit the tree, with the lighter bark higher up which has grown since 2001.

We went to the top of the Freedom Tower for wonderful 360 degree views of New York City including the Empire State Building in the distance.  We also took the Staten Island ferry for a (free!) round trip which enabled us to pass quite close to the Statue of Liberty.
