Not really fruit but these somewhat testicular items are seed pods, the annoying little hairy balls that hook on to people's and dogs' coats and have to be painstakingly picked out. No wonder the plant is called cleavers (or goosegrass). The green spaghetti-like tendrils allow it to cling to taller plants as it hauls itself up towards the light, lacking strength in its own stalk. For all its tedious, tenuous features Galium aparine is a herbal panacea with a myriad uses. You can even, it is written,  make coffee from the ripe capsules.
