Ah the bilberries are here!

Scottish bilberries, like Scottish raspberries, are relatively slow growing in the wild, and hence aren't the largest - but are certainly the most tasty.

They can be hard to spot on acid heath banks and moorland - particularly amongst the heather.  We came across a perfect patch out walking today.  Without a bag to collect enough for a pie we had to munch until we were full then continue on.  Naturally I can't reveal the location...
