Identity solved.

This caterpillar caused a bit of a stir in the Knottman house this morning.
When Mrs. K. got up and began to get dressed for the day this was crawling on her vest on the bedside chair.

Finding an id proved quite a challenge. Searches through moth guides and on the Internet got us nowhere although it seems very distinctive.

But finally the problem was solved.
It is the caterpillar of the Puss Moth.

As it begins to pupate it changes colour rapidly from green to purply red.
It feeds on Willow and yesterday Mrs. K. was gardening under the twisted willow tree.

It is now back where it belongs and changing into a chrysalis.

Something different every day.
