Stairway to heaven?

We travelled from Vilnius to Riva in Latvia today, and on the way went to the 'hill of crosses'. An amazing sight, there are tens of thousands of crosses there. It has an interesting history, the crosses were removed several times by the soviet authorities when Lithuania was occupied. Since independence in 1990 it has been left and continues to grow. Pope John Paul visited in 1993and apparently the hairy bikers also planted a cross there
