What a difference a week makes!

When I left home about a week ago for a short break 'up north' it was still quite dry at the nature reserve. Butterfly numbers were building up, but not that good. Today I walked my butterfly transect and it was spectacular. There's been plenty of rain, leading to sumptuous displays of marjoram, scabious, knapweed and angelica...and butterflies were everywhere! Here are just four from today - red admiral, comma, silver-washed fritillary and brown argus.
