Maidenhead Railway Bridge

This magnificent bridge was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and completed in 1838, as part of his broad gauge route from London to Bristol.

The Great Western Railway is carried across the Thames on two brick arches, each 128 feet with a rise of only 24 feet.

These are the longest and flatest brick arches ever built. These were required because of Bruenl's determination to keep the GWR as flat as possible.
