Life through the lens...

By ValC

Second sitting.

A difficult decision choosing a photo today. So this is the one Mr C liked best, of the female grebe sitting on the nest,  and I have put a collage  of other photos up as an extra.

We have spent a very enjoyable day at RSPB Faiburn Ings.
Just one or two heavy showers, but managed to shelter in one of the hides, so didn't get too wet, and before we got back to the car the sun had come out again and we dried off.
Two highlights today. One of which was the grebe we spotted back on a nest. The father was busy looking after some young ones which were quite big, and making a lot of noise. So we think the female must be sat on a second lot of eggs. We will try and visit again in another few weeks to see if any have hatched out.

The second highlight was a kingfisher which landed in a branch very close to us. Unfortunately it took one look at me and flew off down the dike. Such a vivid flash of iridescent blue.
However the feathers are really a murky brown colour. TRUE!
see here for the explanation why.
Something I didn't know either.

Lots of beautiful wild flowers everywhere, and the blackberries are doing very well this year too. It seems very early for them to be ripening so soon.

We called in at little cafe on the way home and enjoyed a very tasty old fashioned beef burger with onions, and a mug of tea.
Just what we needed to warm us up.

I'm glad you liked my little butterfly yesterday, and thank you for all your kind comments stars and hearts.
