Berwick Station

Travelling back to Edinburgh on the train I just managed to blip this plaque as the train was leaving. It reads:-

This station stands on the site of the Great Hall of Berwick Castle. Here on the 17th November 1292 the claim of Robert Bruce to the Crown of Scotland was declined and the decision in favour John Baliol was given by King Edward I before the full Parliament of England and a large gathering of the nobility and populace of both England and Scotland.
It is true that the great hall was demolished in 1847 to make way for the railway but it seems by that time there was little left of the castle.  The town itself changed hands between England and Scotland many times between the 10th and 14th C  and even in 2008 the Scottish National Party considered  a move to reunite it with Scotland. Its only 3 miles from Scotland.
