Storks, wine and operettas.

Yesterday (Thursday) I went on a bus trip with my neighbour to an operetta in Mörbisch am See. This is an open air stage on the banks of Neusiedlersee (Lake Neusiedler) south of Vienna which seats 6200 people. Each year in summer there is an operetta or musical performance - this year was der Vogelhändler (the Bird seller) by Carl Zeller. I hadn't heard of this operetta before but it was thoroughly enjoyable with lovely melodies and fantastic costumes and dancing, and a typically silly plot which didn't matter that I couldn't understand everything. The setting was pretty amazing, the rain held off and our seats were un the third row. The end of the show was highlighted by a firework display and it was worth the 3.30am drop off at home!
I have put a few photos on Flickr showing the nearby town of Rust where we had dinner before the show. The town is host to 15 pairs of breeding storks and is situated in the wine growing region of Burgenland so it is bursting with wine bars.
