Historic Triwing Airplane

We got up at the crack of dawn (5:30 a.m.) to drive to the Rapid City Regional Airport (still a suitably modest name--we were flying to "Bradley International" near Hartford in Connecticut--it has only a couple of flights to Canada).
In the airport we passed this small airplane--you can read about it here. A local airman--Vern Kraemer--built it in 1952. It was the first plane in South Dakota "to receive an airworthiness certificate."

We flew via Minneapolis and arrived home safe and sound, after a wonderful ten-day visit to South Dakota (it starts here, with Mount Rushmore).
