Expedition 2 Day 2

(Back blip)

The rain was intermittent yesterday but solid overnight so the ground was soggy and seeped up through the 'not as watertight as it should be' boys' tent floor, so their sleeping bags were soaked.

It was still raining at 8am so we cooked in our tent porches. Unfortunately the group's enthusiasm for the expedition was as damp as the day... as evidenced by their apathetic approach to getting ready to depart. 9.30 became 10.30 and they were faffing big time. This was a challenge for Mark and me as leaders. We had the oldest explorers at age 16 and were expecting them to be keen and fit and well-up for a 2-3 day, 3x summit trip. Sadly they were not, and obviously were wishing they were anywhere but on a hillside in the rain. Why the organisers allocated them a two night expedition they didn't want to do is a question yet to be answered.

Given the wet kit, after group discussion, we agreed that we couldn't camp a second night and would go for just one of our three summits from the opposite side. All seven of us reconciled ourselves to make the best of a bad day.

To be fair on the explorers, after a bit of a chat from me, they got on with the navigation and some hours later we achieved a foggy looking summit photo on Beinn Dothaidh at 1004m. We were back at the Station for flag down at 6.30pm and a proper dinner.
