Leaves on the Line

Day seven and my new print is finished apart from mounting when its thoroughly dried in about ten days time. The final colour is raw umber with a bit of black for the shadows and the clinker path. There are a few things that I would do differently if I started again but overall I'm content with the print. I've learnt a lot about the process this week although the main lesson seems to be: don't try using an experimental printing process with so many colours in such a short time!  I may submit it, together with Monday's blipped print "Station Approach", as a pair for consideration by Lewes Printmakers as a contribution to their new book (due sometime in 2018) on the Trees Of Lewes.  Provisionally titled "The Old Malling Railway Cutting" or "Leaves on the Line" (which do you prefer?).

By way of background, the Old Malling railway cutting was opened in October 1868 and carried the Lewes to Uckfield railway line. There are two bridges over the deep cutting, this one carries the road to Old Malling Farm. The railway closed in 1969 and  now the tree-filled cutting is designated as a Site of Nature Conservation Importance.
