Morning at the Achininver Youth Hostel, and the burn is exceptionally high after all the recent rain. More of a raging torrent.

A Grade 3 hostel, so basic or minimal facilities. In its case, you have: a five minute walk to it from the road; no electricity; cooking via gas (a large bottle outside); lighting also via gas (mantles) in the main room, where we all cooked, ate, and sat in the evening with the ancient warden. No light in the rest of the place. Can't remember if it was the girls upstairs and boys downstairs, or the other way around. Also can't remember if there was water inside the main house. Certainly no hot water, unless you heated it in a pan. Fridge, television? Don't be silly!

Liked the sign on the door of the gents (outside loos - see the first extra).

I loved the place, with its bare and simple essentials. My favourite hostel so far, relegating the wonderful Carbisdale Castle to second place. They are complete opposites, in so many ways.

 - that burn was raging somewhat.  [Frame : 07]
 - windy hereabouts, so weigh down the roof... if you want to keep it, when those westerlies strike. Tie the door too.  [Frame : 08]
