Tokyo is filled with opportunities to gamble. In my neighbourhood it seems that every four shops or so there is a gambling arcade, with rows of slot machines and hundreds of people pulling at the levers. Mai (from my work) told me that a nearby park had been built by the racetrack owners, as they must be shown to give something back to the community, as the racetrack encourages gambling. I asked her what all the arcades did for the community and she replied smiling: Pachinko Places? No, they are not gambling! After a short pause she added: well, not really...
