Waking Wasp

This wasp was hibernating on a log in the woodshed. It was curled up on its side looking dead, but it moved when I touched it. I moved the log to some thin sunshine to take photos of it and the warmth woke it up. It slowly clambered to its feet, with the wings hanging loose under it. A couple of shots and I was going to squash it, but amazingly, it simply lifted off and flew away. Blast it! Another wasp nest next summer.
