A City Under Construction

For me this picture is very typical of Lisbon.

On one side the city of 7 hills presents you with a stunning view, this time of Alfama in the distance and the famous red roofs, in fact if you could see further to the right you'd also spy the beautiful Tagus.

On the other hand, you can see the crane carrying out building work. This is something you will find in every corner of this city, there is improvement work being carried out everywhere.

I am told this is for two reasons, one being that tourism in Lisbon is growing and so improving infrastructure is crucial to ensure the city can cope with it. But also as there is a local government election fast approaching, which has also been clear from the many political billboards filling the city.

Today was our last day in Lisbon which was filled with shopping for gifts, exploring even more of the place and lots of nice food and drinks.

Sad to leave but excited to get back home to family, friends and colleagues who I have missed an awful lot.
