Aliens

I had heard there were mink on the River Alne and heard the odd splash, but managed to get a shot of one today.
Most of the photos were blurred but for about two seconds the mink and Bess stood still weighing each other up , before it disappeared into the water.
There were a few mass 'liberations' of these animals from fur farms in the nineties by no doubt well meaning, but not quite thought it through animal rights activists. However it is thought that they were almost domesticated and didn't survive long, and that the ones which have become established were from earlier escapes.
Some commentators think that they have done serious damage to native fish and small mammals etc.
And all for the sake of a fur coat.

Edit, it seems that the blip jury have declared that this is most probably an otter, which is much rarer and more exciting than a mink. I'm still not too sure but am waiting to hear from Warwickshire Wildlife Trust. I'm hoping to send them a photo for ID.
Further edit. WWT are fairly confident it's an OTTER! Yay!
