Abstract Thursday - ?Spaghetti Junction!

There's no theme for Abstract Thursday today.

This may look like multicoloured spaghetti, or sticks of liquorice etc, but the astute amongst you will immediately spot that in fact it's an abstract "spaghetti junction" of mains electric wiring. You'll also probably be surprised to know that it's been keeping our home electrics working remarkably well for a little over 30 years.

When we moved here in 1985 we had the house rewired, but the "professional" lad who did it didn't believe in spending money when it wasn't necessary.  So he squeezed in all the necessary wires into a minor modification of the previous consumer unit, which wasn't really ideal (and certainly wasn't really big enough!). In particular he put too many lights on some of the circuits so you couldn't turn them on all at once without blowing the circuit breaker. Happily I was able to sort that out fairly easily and promised myself that one day I'd completely renew the consumer unit. Of course there was no deadline for this so it never happened - and then new regulations came in making it much more difficult for amateur electricians to do such work legally.

We decided that it was time to engage a proper professional to do a full inspection of the whole of the wiring, which he did today, prior to replacing the unit. Happily he didn't find any serious defects but agreed that some aspects of the system could be improved. So now we're waiting with baited breath for his estimate!

Anyway it provided an opportunity for an abstract blip without any need for fartnarkling in Photoshop. Many thanks to Ingeborg for continuing to host Abstract Thursday.
