May I Never Get Used...

Home time, and I look out from an olive tree on our land, at the sky set aflame by the just-set sun, and I pray to God that I never get used to such beauty.

Nor to the privilege of walking between ancient stone walls, nor to looking up at a castle, practically in our backyard. Nor to the smell of aniseed as I brush the plants overhanging the path, nor to the flocks of birds swooping past as dusk falls.

Nor to the joy of being able to stop in at Sr Zé's, and have healthy, local food set before us by Dona Nazaré, and be introduced to yet another good neighbour, offering to help however they can - tonight it was Sr Manuel, who owns the neighbouring land, and will call in tomorrow to see what we need...
