The Third Largest

After a couple of days with Julia, Sam & Alice in Congleton, we decided to look in at the Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre, which is close to our route back home.
This is the "Mark I" telescope, now known as the Lovell Telescope. It was the largest steerable dish radio telescope in the world, 76.2 metres (250 ft) in diameter, when it was completed in 1957 -  it is now the third largest.
Amazing to think this telescope (now a Grade 1 listed building) is 60 years old and still investigating cosmic phenomena which were undreamed of when it was conceived.
Mrs. MD has the Alice Blip :-)
