The Pepperpot...

...on the Akay Estate in Sedbergh...
It isn't certain what the purpose of this little building was, but locally the suggestion is it was built by Mr Taylor, the then owner, for his daughter Anne. She was suffering from TB and could live near them in the little dwelling in the fresh air, rather than being sent away to a sanitorium. The Pepperpot fell into ruin after she died, but was recently restored by Sedbergh School via a Lottery grant.
We were out on an "art walk" with Pam, to research local residents' memorable places for an exhibition in November.
More information on Akay House via the tag, which leads to several blips by Legodude if you are interested ;)
