Sgwarnog: In the Field

Ten minutes of added time at the end of the first half, after Bradford City's new left back Adam Chicksen was knocked out shortly into his competitive debut. He regained consciousness in the dressing room and we wish him well in his rest and recovery over the next few weeks.

So the league season is underway once more - back to Game 1 of League One after so narrowly missing out on promotion last season. There have been many changes to the playing squad over the close season; established players have left and a mix of known and unknowns have arrived. It will be a several matches before we start to get a sense of whether City can maintain good form and push on, or whether they'll be falling back into the pack.

Today's visitors were Blackpool, newly promoted from League Two; recovering after their rapid descent from the Premier League. The teams traded goals in the first half, but it was a stilted occasion, understandably after the lengthy stoppage and injury.

City were livelier in the second half, and one of the young debutants Omari Patrick produced a fine curling shot from the edge of the area for what proved to be the winner.  Patrick combined well with another of the newcomers, Dominic Poleon, late in the game - perhaps a promising partnership for the future.

For the moment, a win on the first day of the season is a positive start. There were signs that City will continue to be a good footballing side. Perhaps not a 10/10 yet, but we'll give them a 7.
