Silent Pool

Round the corner from Newland's Corner in Surrey, this is where Agatha Christie left her car in 1926 prior to disappearing off the face of the earth for 11 days. The water comes from a chalk spring and has an attractive turquoise hue. A distillery next door uses the water to make Silent Pool gin. A nice spot but something of an anticlimax as a dog walking venue (although about the right distance for Basil). Also very Surrey in that it's very pretty but SO much traffic all around. I can recommend the view, fruit cake and service at the Newland's Corner cafe though.

In other news, my plans to spend the afternoon writing more thesis were scuppered by my laptop's untimely demise. I now have a shiny new (red) replacement all set up and ready to go so will be cracking on again next week.
