Let the celebrations begin ....

I spent yesterday evening in the toilet. Now before those of you with delicate sensibilities turn away, here's the story.

It's the beginning of celebrations for our 45th wedding anniversary. We planned a big family gathering down at ours, except we no longer have an 'ours', we're homeless until mid-October when our rental place becomes free. So just the two of us then, on holiday in Scotland.

Where to go? We've never been to the Oban restaurant the Seafood Temple, and as it has the most wonderful views over Kerrera Sound we thought that a good choice. Slight problem, it's only open a few nights a week, and not on Tuesday, the actual day of our anniversary. So we decided to go Saturday night and have a day out on Tuesday instead. Good thinking, extended celebrations always seem a good idea to me.

The Seafood Temple, out on the Gallanach Road, is excellent from start to finish. The view is over the sound to Kerrera with Mull in the background. The tables are arranged in such a way that every diner has benefit of the view. The second row is made up of bar height tables and chairs so the diners there can see the view over the heads of the first row. The rear wall is covered in mirrors so even people seated away from the view can see it. There are binoculars at each table. The food is as stunning as the scenery, the best crab cakes and halibut I've had anywhere, and we've eaten in some pretty swish places all over the world, down the years. The pudding to die for, ginger sponge with white chocolate icecream.

Are you wondering where the toilet comes in, or are your beginning to get a suspicion? Probably not what you think. The Seafood Temple, converted 5 or 6 years ago, was built in 1933 - as public toilets!
