Carvings

Another Sunday and another outing, these carvings are on the Ruthwell Cross which I saw for the first time today.  It is a huge stone Anglo Saxon cross which dates from about the eighth century and is now to be found inside Ruthwell Church.  Some of the inscriptions are in latin and some in the runic alphabet, but it also features amazing carvings of biblical scenes, although this photograph shows part of one of the side panels.   It's not the easiest place to find, I once went out on my own to photograph it and I can't remember where I ended up but it was certainly not here.  Map reading is not my strong point.
