Sweet Pea envy

I was at Discussion group this morning - "should UK adopt a federal style of government?" We all thought it would be a good idea as everything now has too much southern/London bias. But we managed to discuss issues surrounding the complexities for 2 hours.

Then Ailie and I went to have lunch with Lynne, the friend whose theatre group put on Steel Magnolias recently. We had such a good time. Her husband was busy in his new allotment which is actually a field behind their garden. He is digging it by hand - a mammoth task as it has had all sorts of weeds growing for years. However his first priority, even before the veg, was to get the sweet peas going. Unlike us, he had no rabbits eating them - this is our first year with none, so I'm envious of this beautiful sweet-smelling display.

Then we called on another friend Mary, who also lives in Alnwick. She had had to get her dog put down today so we went to give her a bit of company and hear about Bear's last hours. It is sad when this happens, but I'm glad she thought of the dog in pain and not herself.
