Monomonday: Ancient Mystery

This is a blip of a photo of Tess's Dad as a six year old, on holiday with his older sister, Dorothy. Today, we got a step closer to solving the mystery surrounding his ancestry.

He discovered as an adult that he had been adopted when he was young but knew nothing of the details of his adoption or his birth mother.

For some reason, Tess's Mum wasn't at all keen for anyone to research into his background; we got the impression that she and his sister Dorothy knew something about the circumstances but refused to share what they knew, even with Ron, always becoming defensive if the subject was raised.

Anyway, since he passed away last year, we have been trying to find out more about his birth with the very patient help of a lady from the County Council (enquiries into historical adoptions can only be made through them these days).

Today she came to tell us that she had traced the name of Ron's birth mother and her address and occupation at the time he was born; hopefully, this will help us to find out more about her and get closer to solving the mystery, including whether there were any skeletons in the cupboard that Tess's Mum and sister were trying to hide and why, if as Dorothy says he joined the family as a baby, he was not officially adopted until he was 8, which was highly unusual in those days

Other than that, we've had a quiet day of swimming, bread baking and watching England clinch the cricket test series against South Africa on another exciting day's play
