Day to day today

Oysters

Went foraging on a local beach today - had a fantastic day in gorgeous sunshine! The course was run by a lady called Lucia in Deal, and there were another eight of us eager to learn about beach foraging!

Started off with a breakfast at a local cafe which included seaweed and beetroot, and seaweed and fennel fritters. We then went across to Minnis Bay, where we collected huge amounts of oysters, mussels and winkles, and had a little taste of dulce pepper seaweed - which was, unsurprisingly, very salty!

Then back to Lucia's where we shucked the oysters on the street (much to the amusement of the passing motorists!), whilst sampling a few as we went. Lucia had cooked a wonderful lunch, which also incorporated seaweed into a risotto, and we had the mussels and winkles as follow ups.

A really memorable day, learnt a lot about what is edible on the seashore - and there is so much that is. Lucia is hoping to run other courses on mushrooms and berries, so fingers crossed those come off.
