Yorkshire Three Peaks

Today's the day .......................... to head off

It was so wonderful last year - and when we were invited to go and stay at Merrybent again, we were delighted to accept.

The Forest of Bowland is a truly wonderful place.  When I say 'Forest'  - it's not a forest in the 'tree' sense - it was an area where the Saxon kings of England hunted - back in the day.  This was the view we had of the three peaks - (from the rt) Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside from the 'big stone' (see extra).

The Great Stone of Fourstones  or the 'big stone' as it is known locally, is a glacial erratic on the moorlands of Tatham Fell, situated in North Yorkshire near Bentham.  The name suggests that there were once four stones, but now there is only one. The other three were possibly broken up for scythe-sharpening stones or building stone, centuries ago.

Tomorrow it's Will's birthday ..........................
